Getting Started with BusinessHRM

Welcome to BusinessHRM. This guide gives a new agency admin a recommended order for setting things up so that, by the end, your company is ready to add work and run day to day. You don't have to do everything at once — but following this order avoids the common "I added an employee but they can't see anything" surprises.

Where to find itMainDashboard

Tip: Set things up roughly in the order below. Each step builds on the one before it (employees need roles, roles need departments, deals need contacts, and so on).

Before you begin

When you first sign in you land on your Dashboard. As an admin you'll see a setup banner and a gear icon for customising widgets — but the real first step is configuring the company itself. Most setup lives under Settings in the sidebar.

Step 1 — Configure your company

Open Settings and work through the Company Settings first. These choices affect everything else, so get them right early:

  • Company name, logo, and address — used on invoices, the login screen, and emails.
  • Timezone, date format, time format, and currency — these drive attendance, the calendar, and all finance figures.
  • Language and theme — the default look and language for your team.

Important: Your timezone and currency are hard to change comfortably once you have live data. Confirm them before adding employees or invoices.

While you're in Settings, glance at Business Address, Tax, and Currency if you'll be invoicing.

Step 2 — Turn on the modules you'll use

BusinessHRM is modular — Projects, Tasks, Attendance, Leaves, Invoices, Tickets, Deals, and more can each be switched on or off. Go to SettingsModules and enable only what your agency needs. Menus, dashboard widgets, and permissions all key off this list, so a feature that's switched off simply won't appear.

Note: If you enable a module later and it doesn't show up, it usually just needs its menu permission turned on for your roles (Step 3).

Step 3 — Set up roles and permissions

Before adding people, decide what each type of user can do. Under SettingsRoles & Permissions you can review the default roles (such as Admin and Employee) and create your own (for example, Project Manager or Accountant). For each role you control what it can view, add, edit, and delete across every module.

Permission: Almost everything in BusinessHRM is permission-gated. If a teammate can't see a menu or button, check their role's permissions first.

Step 4 — Create departments and designations

Departments (e.g. Design, Development, Sales) and designations (job titles, e.g. Senior Developer) are used when you add employees and they power the HR reports and dashboard charts. Create these under the HR area before you add people, so each employee can be slotted in straight away.

Step 5 — Add your employees

With roles, departments, and designations ready, add your team:

  1. Go to the Employees area (HR section of the sidebar).
  2. Click Add Employee and fill in their details, assigning a role, department, and designation.
  3. Set their employee ID, joining date, and login email.

Each employee gets their own Private Dashboard the first time they log in.

Step 6 — Set up attendance, shifts, leaves, and holidays (optional but recommended)

If you track attendance, configure:

  • Attendance settings — office hours, the half-day mark, and clock-in rules.
  • Shifts and the shift roster — who works when.
  • Leave types and policies — so employees can request time off.
  • Holidays — public holidays appear on everyone's calendar.

These settings control the Clock In / Clock Out button on the Private Dashboard.

Step 7 — Add your contacts and deals

Now bring in the people and companies you work with:

  • Contacts — your clients and the companies they belong to. Add them under the Sales (CRM) section, or import a list in bulk.
  • Deals — your sales pipeline. Create deals, assign deal agents, and track follow-ups. (BusinessHRM uses Deals for the pipeline — there is no separate "Lead" list.)

Step 8 — Start working

You're set up. From here the day-to-day flow is:

  • Create Projects and break them into Tasks and Milestones.
  • Log time with the Timesheet / task timer.
  • Raise Invoices, Estimates, and record Payments.
  • Handle Tickets for support requests.

Tip: Keep an eye on your two dashboards — the Private Dashboard for your own work, and the Advanced Dashboard for company-wide KPIs. Your day starts on My Calendar, which gathers your tasks, events, leaves, holidays, and follow-ups in one place.
