Projects Overview

Projects are the central workspace in BusinessHRM. A project groups together the people, tasks, milestones, files, time logs, and finances for one piece of work, and gives everyone involved a single place to track progress.

Where to find itIn the left sidebar, open the Work section (briefcase icon) and click Projects. This opens the project list.

The Projects menu is only visible if the Projects module is enabled for your account and your role has permission to view projects.

The project list

The list shows every project you are allowed to see. For each project you can see its name, category, the assigned contact, dates, status, and progress. From here you can:

  • Click a project name to open its detail page.
  • Use the search box and filters to narrow the list (by status, category, and more).
  • Click Add Project to create a new project (see Create a project) — this button only appears if you have permission to add projects.

What you see inside a project

Opening a project shows a detail page with tabs across the top. The exact tabs depend on which modules are enabled and your permissions, but they can include:

  • Overview — summary, status, progress, and quick actions.
  • Members — the people on the project.
  • Files — uploaded documents and links.
  • Milestones — major stages of the project.
  • Tasks and Task Board — the work to be done.
  • Gantt — a timeline chart of tasks.
  • Time Logs — recorded time against the project.
  • Invoices, Estimates, Orders, Payments, Expenses — finance, when those modules are on and a contact is assigned.
  • Discussion, Notes, Rating, Activity, Tickets — collaboration and history.

Tabs that do not fit on the bar collapse into a More dropdown.

Project statuses

A project always has one status. The available statuses are:

  • Not started
  • In progress (the usual default)
  • On hold
  • Under review
  • Finished
  • Canceled

You can change the status from the Overview tab if you have edit rights. See Project status and progress for details, including the rule that a project can only be marked Finished when it is 100% complete.

Who can see what

  • Admins and users with full project permissions see and manage all projects.
  • Employees typically see projects they created or are a member of, depending on how their role is configured.
  • Contacts see the projects they are assigned to. The Department field and the Activity tab are hidden from contacts, and the Members tab is hidden on public projects.
