Time Log Settings

Time Log Settings controls how time tracking behaves for your team: whether the timer stops automatically after office hours, whether logged time needs approval, whether a tracker reminder is sent at a set time, and whether a daily time-log report is emailed. The whole page is a single form with a Save button at the bottom.

Where to find itSettings sidebarTime Log Settings

This tab only appears when the Time Logs module is enabled for your company and your role has the right permission.

Time log behaviour

Each setting is a toggle. Two of the toggles reveal extra fields when turned on: the tracker reminder reveals a time field, and the daily report reveals a role selector.

How to set it up:

  1. Open Settings sidebar > Time Log Settings.
  2. Turn on the toggles you want.
  3. If you turn on the tracker reminder, set the reminder time.
  4. If you turn on the daily time-log report, choose which roles receive it.
  5. Click Save.
Field What it does
Auto stop timer after office time When on, a running timer is stopped automatically once the employee's office hours end.
Approval required When on, logged time must be approved before it counts.
Tracker reminder When on, employees are reminded to start their time tracker. Reveals the Time field.
Time The time of day the tracker reminder is sent. Shown only when "Tracker reminder" is on. Uses your company time format.
Daily timelog report When on, a daily time-log report is emailed. Reveals the role selector.
Choose role for report The roles that receive the daily time-log report. Shown only when "Daily timelog report" is on.

Permission

Access to Time Log Settings is controlled by the manage_time_log_setting permission, which must be set to "all", and the Time Logs module must be enabled for your company. If either condition is not met, the page returns a 403 (access denied) or the tab does not appear.

Tips

  • Turn on "Auto stop timer after office time" to stop timers being left running overnight and inflating logged hours.
  • Use "Approval required" if you want a manager to review logged time before it is counted (for example for billing or payroll).
  • The tracker reminder only sends if you also set a time; remember to fill in the Time field when you enable it.
  • The daily time-log report only emails the roles you select, so pick the managers or admins who actually need to see it.
  • If you do not see this page, the Time Logs module or the required permission is missing.
