Appreciations & Awards

Recognising good work keeps teams motivated. BusinessHRM lets you create reusable awards (each with an icon and colour) and then give an appreciation — an award presented to a specific employee on a date. This article covers both: defining award types and giving appreciations.

Where to find itSidebarHRAppreciation (/appreciations).

Two linked screens are toggled by buttons in the top-right:

  • Appreciation — appreciations given to employees (the trophy view).
  • Award — the reusable award types (the award view).

Permission note: Viewing appreciations requires View Appreciation; giving an appreciation requires Add Appreciation; creating or managing award types requires Manage Award.

Awards (award types)

An award is a template — a title, an icon and a colour — that you reuse whenever you recognise someone (for example Employee of the Month, Star Performer).

How to create an award

  1. From the Appreciation page, switch to the Award view and click Add Award (or use the quick Add button next to the Award field when giving an appreciation).
  2. Enter the details (below). A live preview shows your chosen icon tinted with your chosen colour.
  3. Save.
Field Required Notes
Title Yes The award name, e.g. Star Performer.
Choose Icon Yes Pick from the predefined icon list; each is shown with its name.
Icon Background Colour Yes The colour behind the icon (default red).
Summary No A short description of the award.

Managing award types

The Award list shows each type's Icon, Title and Status (Active/Inactive). You can:

  • Filter by Status and search.
  • Toggle a type Active/Inactive (Change Status).
  • Delete a type. If the type already has appreciations linked to it, BusinessHRM offers to Disable it (set inactive) instead of deleting, so existing records are preserved.

Giving an appreciation

How to give an appreciation

  1. On the Appreciation page, click Add Appreciation.
  2. Complete the form (below) and save.
Field Required Notes
Award Yes Choose the award type to present (shown with its icon). Use the inline Add button to create a new type on the fly if you have permission.
Award To Yes The employee receiving the appreciation.
Date Yes When the award is given (defaults to today).
Summary No A rich-text note about why it's being given.
Photo No An optional image (PNG, JPG, JPEG, SVG, BMP).

The appreciation appears on the recipient's profile under the Appreciation tab.

The appreciations list

The list shows who the award was Given To, the Award Name (with its icon), and the date it was Given On. You can filter by a date Duration, by Award type, and by Award To (employee), search, import appreciations from a file, and delete entries.

Tips

  • Set up your common award types once (with clear icons and colours), then giving appreciations becomes a few clicks.
  • Choose Disable it rather than deleting an award type that has history, so past appreciations keep their badge.
  • Add a meaningful Summary when giving an appreciation — it shows on the employee's profile and makes the recognition feel personal.
