Duplicating and Archiving Projects

When you run similar projects repeatedly, you can duplicate an existing one to reuse its structure. When a project is over, you can archive it to keep your active list clean without losing the data.

Duplicating a project

Duplicating copies a project's structure into a brand-new project. You choose exactly what to bring across.

How to duplicate a project

  1. Go to Work → Projects.
  2. Open the project you want to copy (or use its action menu) and choose Copy Project.
  3. Enter the new project's details:
    • Task Short Code
    • Project Name
    • Start Date
  4. Choose what to copy across (see options below).
  5. Click Save.

What you can copy

Option What it copies
Task The project's tasks.
Sub Task The sub-tasks (checklists) on those tasks.
Same Assignee Keeps the same people assigned to copied tasks.
Milestone The project's milestones.
File Uploaded files.
Time Logs Recorded time entries.
Note Project notes.
Task statuses / columns Which task board columns to include.

A duplicated project starts with the status Not started.

Archiving a project

Archiving moves a finished or paused project out of the main list while keeping all of its data.

How to archive and restore

  • Archive: use the project's action/archive option to move it to the archive.
  • Restore: open the Archive view and choose Restore on a project to bring it back to the active list.
  • Delete permanently: the Archive view also lets you permanently delete a project. This cannot be undone.

Where to find archived projects

Open the Archive view from the Projects area to see archived projects, restore them, or delete them permanently.

Permissions

  • Duplicating and archiving follow your project add/edit/delete permissions.
  • Permanent deletion from the archive requires delete permission — use it with care.

Tips

  • Build a "template" project once, then duplicate it for each new client engagement to save setup time.
  • Archive rather than delete completed projects so you retain history and can restore if needed.
  • When duplicating, leave Time Logs unchecked unless you specifically want past hours copied into the new project.
