Sub-tasks (Checklist)

Sub-tasks break a task into a checklist of smaller steps. Each sub-task can have its own assignee, dates, description, and files, and is ticked off as it is completed.

Where to find itOpen a task and go to its Sub-tasks (Checklist) tab.

How to add a sub-task

  1. Open the task.
  2. Go to the Sub-tasks / Checklist tab.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Enter a Title and any other details.
  5. Click Save.

How to complete a sub-task

Tick the sub-task to mark it complete. Completed sub-tasks are shown struck through. Untick to reopen it.

Fields

Start Date When the sub-task begins. No
Due Date When the sub-task is due. No
Assign To A single assignee, chosen from the parent task's assigned people. No
Description A rich-text description (on the edit form). Supports @mentions. No
File Click Upload File to attach one or more files to the sub-task. No

Comments on sub-tasks

Each sub-task supports its own comments, so you can discuss a single checklist item without cluttering the main task.

Permission Controls
View sub tasks Seeing the checklist.

Edit sub tasks Editing sub-tasks.
Delete sub tasks Deleting sub-tasks.

Tips

  • A sub-task's Assign To list is limited to people already assigned to the parent task — add someone to the task first if they need a sub-task.
  • Use sub-tasks as a lightweight checklist for routine steps that do not each need to be a full task.
