Task Labels and Categories

Labels and categories help you classify and filter tasks. Categories are a single grouping; labels are colour-coded tags, and a task can have several of them.

Task categories

A task category groups tasks by type (for example, "Design", "Bug", "Admin").

How to add a category

  1. On the new-task form, click Add next to the Task Category field (or open the category management dialog).
  2. Enter a Category Name.
  3. Click Save.

How to rename or delete a category

  • Rename: click the category name in the list and edit it.
  • Delete: use the delete button on the row.
Field What it does Required
Category Name The name of the category. Yes

Task labels

Labels are colour-coded tags. A label can be global (available everywhere) or scoped to a single project.

How to add a label

  1. On the new-task form, click Add next to the Label field (or open the label management dialog).
  2. Enter a Label Name.
  3. Choose a Color.
  4. Optionally choose a Project to scope the label to that project.
  5. Optionally add a Description.
  6. Click Save.

How to edit a label

Edit the Label Name, Color, Description, or Project directly on the label row.

Field What it does Required
Label Name The text shown on the label. Yes
Color The label's colour. Yes
Project Restricts the label to one project (leave blank for a global label). No
Description An optional note. No

Note: changing a label's project removes it from tasks in the old project.

Tips

  • Use categories for the broad type of work and labels for cross-cutting markers (such as "Urgent" or "Waiting on client").
  • Both categories and labels become quick filters on the task List and Board views.
