Project Categories, Sub-Categories, and Labels
Categories and labels help you organise and filter a growing list of projects. Categories are a single grouping; sub-categories add a second level; labels are colour-coded tags you can apply to many projects.
Categories
A project category is a simple grouping (for example, "Web", "Branding", "Retainer").
Where to find it
How to add a category
- Open the category management dialog (or click Add next to Project Category on the project form).
- Enter a Category Name.
- Click Save.
How to rename or delete a category
- Rename: click the category name in the list and edit it directly.
- Delete: use the delete button on the category row.
| Field | What it does | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Category Name | The name of the category. | Yes |
Sub-categories
Sub-categories let you add a second level under a category.
How to add a sub-category
- Open the sub-category management dialog.
- Choose the parent Category.
- Enter a Category Name for the sub-category.
- Click Save.
| Field | What it does | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Category (parent) | The category this sub-category belongs to. | Yes |
| Category Name | The name of the sub-category. | Yes |
Labels
Labels are colour-coded tags. A project can have several labels, which makes them ideal for cross-cutting markers like "Priority", "VIP", or "Internal".
How to add a label
- Open the label management dialog (or click Add next to the Label field on the project form).
- Enter a Label Name.
- Pick a Color (you can use a suggested swatch).
- Click Save.
How to edit a label
In the label list, edit the Label Name, Color, or Description directly on the row.
| Field | What it does | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Label Name | The text shown on the label. | Yes |
| Color | The label's colour. | Yes |
| Description | An optional note about the label. | No |
Permissions
- Manage project category — to add, rename, or delete categories and sub-categories.
- Project labels — to create, edit, or delete labels (full permission required to manage labels).
Tips
- Apply labels when creating or editing a project — they then become quick filters on the project list.
- Keep category names broad and use labels for the finer details, so the category list stays short.
