Break log

The Break Log records every break your team takes — lunch, tea, prayer, and any other break type you've set up. Employees start and end breaks from their dashboard while they're clocked in, and each break is timed and listed here. A separate Reporting view summarises break usage.

Permission: This page requires View Break. With All you see every employee's breaks; with Owned you see only your own; with None the page is hidden.

Taking a break (employee)

Employees don't start breaks from this page — they use the Take a Break button on their dashboard:

  1. Make sure you're clocked in. The Take a Break button only appears next to your clock-in/out controls while you have an open attendance.
  2. Click Take a Break. A dialog opens.
  3. Choose a Break Type (the dropdown shows each type and its time limit, if any).
  4. Optionally add a Note for the break.
  5. Click Start Break. Your break is now running.
  6. When you're done, open the same button again and click End Break. The dialog shows a live elapsed counter and your break type's allowed limit while you're on break.

Important: You must be clocked in to start a break, and you can only have one break running at a time. You'll be told to end the current break before starting another.

Note: If your company hasn't set up any break types yet, the dialog will say so and ask you to contact your administrator. See Break types.

Reading the Break Log table

The Break Log lists each break with these columns:

Column Meaning
# Row number.
Employee Who took the break.
Break Type The type, shown with its colour dot (e.g. Lunch, Tea Break).
Start Time When the break began.
End Time When it ended — or a Running badge if the break is still in progress.
Duration How long the break lasted, as a badge. A break that went over its type's time limit is shown in red with a warning icon.
Note The optional note added when the break started.
Action A delete option (permission-dependent).

Tip: For breaks still in progress, the duration shown is the live elapsed time so far.

Filtering by date

  1. Use the Duration date-range picker in the filter bar to limit the list to a date range.
  2. A Clear Filters button appears once a range is set — click it to reset.

Deleting a break

  1. Open the row's action menu and choose Delete.

Permission: Deleting requires Delete Break. With All you can delete anyone's break; with Owned you can only delete your own. The delete option is hidden on breaks you can't remove.
