Log Time Manually

When you forget to run the timer, you can add a time entry by hand with the exact start and end times. BusinessHRM works out the total hours for you.

Where to find itGo to WorkTimesheet and click Log Time. The button appears if you have permission to add time logs. It is available on the Time Logs list, the Employee TimeLogs view, and the Calendar view.

How to log time manually

  1. Go to Work → Timesheet.
  2. Click Log Time.
  3. Fill in the fields below.
  4. Click Save.

Fields

Project The project the work was for. Selecting it loads that project's tasks. No
Task The task the time was spent on. Yes
Employee Who the time is for. Only shown if you can log time for others; otherwise it is set to you. Yes
Start Date The date work started. Defaults to today. Yes
Start Time The time work started. Yes
End Date The date work ended. Defaults to today. Yes
End Time The time work ended. Yes
Memo A short note describing the work. Yes
Total Hours Calculated automatically from start and end — not an input.
Custom Fields Any extra fields your administrator has added. Varies

There is no earnings or hourly-rate field on the form — earnings are calculated automatically. See Timesheet reports and earnings.

Rules to be aware of

  • An entry must be at least one minute long, or it is rejected.
  • Entries that overlap another of your existing entries are rejected.
  • For time-based projects, an entry that would exceed the project's remaining time budget is rejected.

Permissions

Permission Controls
Add time logs (full) Logging time for any employee (the Employee field is shown).
Add time logs (own) Logging time only for yourself.

Tips

  • Double-check Start/End Date when logging time that spans midnight.
  • The Total Hours display updates as you set the times, so you can confirm the duration before saving.
  • If approval is required, your manager is notified when you save — see Timesheet approval.
