Notification Settings

Notification Settings is where you choose which events in BusinessHRM trigger a notification, and through which channels those notifications go out. BusinessHRM can let people know about things like a new task assignment, a leave request, an invoice, and many other events. On this page you decide, event by event, whether each one is sent by email, by push notification, and (if Slack is connected) to Slack.

Where to find itSettings sidebarNotification Settings

The page opens on the Email tab. Across the top are tabs for each channel: Email, Slack, and Push Notification. The Slack and Push Notification tabs show a small status dot — green when the channel is active, red when it is not. Switching tabs reloads the list for that channel.

Each channel tab shows the full list of notification events on the right side of the page. Every event has a checkbox. Tick it to send that event through the channel; untick it to stop sending it. A Select All checkbox at the top of the list turns every event on or off at once.

Email notifications

The Email tab is where you control which events are emailed to your team and contacts.

  1. Open Notification Settings (it opens on the Email tab).
  2. In the notification list on the right, tick each event you want sent by email, or untick events you do not want emailed.
  3. Use Select All at the top to toggle every event at once.
  4. Click Save.
Control What it does
Notification checkbox (per event) Turns email on or off for that specific event. Ticked means an email is sent when the event happens.
Select All Ticks or unticks every event in the list in one click.
Preview Opens a branded sample of that event's email so you can see how it will look (your logo, colours, and footer) before turning it on. The sample uses placeholder text; real emails are filled with live data when sent.
Save Saves your email notification choices.

The actual email sending account (the mail server / SMTP credentials and the "from" address) is managed by the platform administrator and is not covered here. If email is not yet configured at the platform level, emails will not go out even with events ticked.

Slack notifications

The Slack tab lets you send chosen events into a Slack channel using an incoming webhook. This tab is where you connect Slack and pick which events to post there.

  1. Open Notification Settings and click the Slack tab.
  2. Tick Status to turn Slack notifications on. The connection fields appear.
  3. Paste your Slack Incoming Webhook URL into the Slack Webhook field.
  4. Optionally upload a Slack Notification Logo to brand the messages.
  5. On the right, tick each event you want posted to Slack (or use Select All).
  6. Click Save.
  7. To check the connection, click Send Test Notification — BusinessHRM posts a test message to your Slack channel.
Field What it does
Status Turns Slack notifications on or off. When off, the webhook and logo fields are hidden and nothing is posted to Slack. Required to enable Slack.
Slack Webhook The Incoming Webhook URL from your Slack workspace. This is where BusinessHRM sends the messages. Required when Slack is on.
Slack Notification Logo An optional image used as the avatar/branding on the Slack messages. Accepted formats: PNG, JPG, JPEG, SVG, BMP.
Notification checkbox (per event) Turns Slack posting on or off for that specific event.
Select All Ticks or unticks every event for Slack at once.
Send Test Notification Posts a test message to your Slack channel to confirm the webhook works.
Save Saves the Slack connection and your event choices.

The green/red dot on the Slack tab reflects whether Slack is currently active.

Push notifications

The Push Notification tab controls which events are delivered as push notifications (the alerts that appear in the app and on devices).

  1. Open Notification Settings and click the Push Notification tab.
  2. On the right, tick each event you want delivered as a push notification, or untick events you do not want pushed.
  3. Use Select All to toggle every event at once.
  4. Click Save.
  5. If push delivery is active, a Send Test Notification button lets you fire a test push.
Control What it does
Notification checkbox (per event) Turns push notification on or off for that specific event.
Select All Ticks or unticks every event for push at once.
Send Test Notification Sends a test push so you can confirm delivery is working (shown only when push is active).
Save Saves your push notification choices.

The underlying push provider keys and credentials are configured by the platform administrator and are not covered here. If no push provider is active at the platform level, push notifications will not be delivered even with events ticked.

Which events are listed

The same list of notification events appears on each channel tab. The exact events depend on which modules and features your installation has, but they cover the day-to-day activity across BusinessHRM (assignments, requests, finance documents, status changes, and so on). Each event is controlled independently per channel, so you can, for example, email a particular event but not push it, or post it to Slack only.

Permission

Access to this page is controlled by the Manage Notification Setting permission (manage_notification_setting). A user must have this permission to open Notification Settings and change which events are sent on each channel. Without it, the page is blocked.

Tips

  • Use the Preview link on the Email tab to see exactly how a notification will look to recipients before you switch it on.
  • Turn on only the events people actually need. Over-notifying leads to alerts being ignored; under-notifying means missed work.
  • Each channel is independent. A common setup is to email important records, push time-sensitive alerts, and post a curated few events to a Slack channel for visibility.
  • After connecting Slack, always click Send Test Notification to confirm the webhook is correct before relying on it.
  • If notifications are not arriving even though events are ticked, the channel itself may not be set up at the platform level (email server or push provider). Confirm the channel is active before troubleshooting individual events.
