Module Settings
Module Settings is where you switch BusinessHRM's features on and off for each type of user. A module is a feature area such as Projects, Tasks, Attendance, Invoices, Tickets, and so on. When a module is switched off for a user type, it disappears from that user's menu and is not available to them. This lets you keep BusinessHRM tidy by showing each kind of person only the features they actually use.
The page is organised into three tabs across the top, one per user type. The Admin tab is shown first.
The three tabs
| Tab | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Admin | Which modules are available in the admin/staff side of BusinessHRM for people with admin-level access. |
| Employee | Which modules appear for regular employees. |
| Contact | Which modules appear in the contact panel for your external contacts who log in. |
Switching between tabs reloads the list of modules for that user type. Each user type has its own independent set of on/off switches, so you can, for example, leave a module on for admins but turn it off for employees and contacts.
Turning a module on or off
- Open Module Settings and click the tab for the user type you want to change (Admin, Employee, or Contact).
- Each module is shown with a toggle switch. A switch that is on (enabled) means the module is active for that user type; off means it is hidden.
- Click the toggle to flip it.
- The change saves immediately and the page reloads to apply it.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Module toggle | Turns the module active (on) or inactive (off) for the selected user type. When off, the module is removed from that user type's menu and is not accessible to them. |
What happens when you disable a module
- The module is removed from the menu for that user type, and its pages become unavailable to them.
- In Roles & Permissions, a disabled module is greyed out and shows an information icon, because there is no point setting permissions for a feature that is switched off. Re-enable the module to edit its permissions again.
- Disabling a module for one user type does not affect the other tabs. For example, turning Projects off for Contacts still leaves it on for Admins and Employees if those are enabled.
The Settings module cannot be disabled
The Settings area itself is protected. If you try to turn it off, BusinessHRM shows a message saying it cannot be disabled and leaves the switch on. This prevents you from accidentally locking yourself out of the configuration pages.
Contact-visible modules
The Contact tab controls what your external contacts see when they log into their panel. Only modules that are meant to be contact-facing appear here (for example invoices, estimates, projects, tickets, and similar contact-relevant areas). Use this tab to decide exactly how much of BusinessHRM your contacts can see — for instance, you might let them view their invoices and projects but hide everything else.
Permission
Access to this page is controlled by the Manage Module Setting permission (manage_module_setting). A user must have this set to "All" to open Module Settings and change any module switch. Without it, the page is blocked.
Tips
- Turn off modules you do not use so menus stay short and focused for your team.
- If a module is missing from a role's grid in Roles & Permissions, check Module Settings first — the module is probably switched off for that user type.
- When you add or build a brand-new module and it does not appear in the menu, confirm it is enabled here. A module that is not allowed for the user type will stay hidden even after the toggle is on, so the feature must be both allowed and switched on.
- Use the Contact tab deliberately. It is the simplest way to control your external contacts' experience without touching individual permissions.
- Changes take effect on the next page load. If you do not see a module appear or disappear right away, refresh the page.
